Kitchens

Brand new kitchenFitted December 2013
  • Howdens Burford Cream
  • 38mm solid oak worktops
  • Minoli floor tiles, about 50m2

A brand new kitchen fitted December 2013 in a new extension, where the customer wanted a warm, timeless, yet very modern kitchen to a high specification. Some units were customised for a neat fit at every corner and to make the most of the space.

Steve worked with Howdens and the customer on the design and layout and fitted in all their requests, including room for an American-style fridge freezer beside the built in oven. He built a slimmer than usual stud wall so it lined up with the existing internal wall, keeping one smooth wall at the kitchen entrance.

The Howdens Burford Cream units have soft close doors and drawers, and the 38mm solid oak worktops give the room its warmth. Steve laid the floor himself: high quality Minoli Graal Arras tiles in three sizes across a 2m2 pattern, about 50m2 in all, through the dining area and utility room. He came back once the customer had chosen the splashback and windowsill tiles.

The extractor sits centrally over the hob with the electrics hidden behind the chimney, there's an integral dishwasher beside the Howdens 1.5 bowl sink, and Steve's electrician did the electrical work.

New country kitchenCompleted in 10 days
  • Howdens oak Tewkesbury Skye
  • Under cupboard lighting
  • Boiler boxed in, easy access

The kitchen was spread between the original house and an extension, and the extension wall kinked in by about 10cm. The clients wanted a single edge to their worktop down that wall, so the worktop was cut and fitted around the kink, the units trimmed by the same amount for a flush look, and the wall built up behind the wider worktop to close the gap.

They chose the oak Tewkesbury Skye kitchen from Howdens with a basin sink, under cupboard lighting, and lighting for the glass fronted cupboards and shelving. White small brick shaped tiles run between the worktop and wall cupboards and around the sink and cooker up to the extractor hood.

The boiler was boxed in with Tewkesbury Skye to disguise it while keeping easy access, and Steve built a fitted wooden surround for the pipes, tiled it, and made it slide in and out. A floor standing wall unit topped with matching worktop gave the extra surface they wanted.

Working with a colleague, Steve had the kitchen completed in 10 days while the family were away on holiday with their two small children.

Bathrooms

Bathroom in a penthouse apartment, CheltenhamComplete refit
  • Gold plated fittings
  • Grahams furniture and shower
  • Topps Tiles

A luxury bathroom fitted in a penthouse apartment. The shower pipes were moved from the side wall to the rear wall and hidden, with a gold plated mixer shower. A new bath went in with a stylish shelf built to hide an awkward gap at its end.

Behind the basin and WC Steve designed and built a fully tiled wall and shelf, hiding the pipework and giving the client the handy surface they asked for, in mosaic tiles to match the wall surround and the bath shelf.

He moved all the shower pipework, plumbed in the shower, bath, WC and sink, and repaired and prepared the walls before tiling them with high specification tiles. Gold plated taps, shower, plugs and sink pipe blend with the tiles for a classy look. Bathroom furniture and shower came from trade supplier Grahams, and the tiles from Topps Tiles.

Travertine wetroomBathroom to wetroom
  • Travertine tiles throughout
  • Custom built basin unit
  • Rain shower in the ceiling

A small dated upstairs family bathroom converted to a stylish travertine tiled wetroom. The basin unit is custom built to fit the space, with plenty of storage underneath and tiled doors for a sleeker look.

The WC was moved slightly to make the most of the room, and the old boxing for the waste pipe was cut back to the minimum and tiled to blend in. Two built in wall shelves keep shampoo off the shower floor, new spotlighting lifts the room, and a heated wall mirror has a remote controlled RGB light underneath, which is a bit of fun.

A rain shower head is set into the ceiling, with a hand held shower as a handy extra.

Spa bath and rain showerTwo rooms made one
  • Spa and jacuzzi bath
  • Mosaic tiled surround
  • Sensor light mirror

This bathroom was originally two rooms, a very small downstairs WC and a small shower room, made into one good sized, fully tiled bathroom.

A spa and jacuzzi bath went in with a mosaic tiled surround that carries over a low cupboard built at bath height, filling an alcove and giving extra surface and access to a large family sized towel heater. A collapsible screen serves the rain shower in the ceiling.

The sensor light mirror unit sits neatly beside the window, extra lighting on its own switch picks out the sparkle in the floor tiles, and an RGB strip above the bath is set by remote control to suit the mood.

Luxury ensuite, top floor apartmentSloping ceiling and dormer
  • Corner bath
  • Custom built corner cupboard
  • Gold plated bath mixer

In the roof of an Edwardian building, with a sloping ceiling and a dormer window. The room was fully tiled to the ceiling in gloss white tiles, with a matching border tile carefully alternated around the room and each one cut for the roof slope and corners.

The old bathroom had no built in storage, so Steve made a custom built-in corner cupboard to suit the new suite and fitted a slim under sink cupboard. The corner pipework was boxed in and tiled, a skirting board fitted, and a shelf-come-seat built on top of the boxing.

A corner bath was fitted with luxury gold plated bath mixer taps and a matching shower riser rail, so it also works as a stand up shower without needing a screen.

White luxury wetroomSmall family bathroom turned into a wetroom
  • Tanked and fully waterproofed
  • Textured stone coloured floor tiles
  • Suspended basin

The bathroom straddled the new and old parts of the house with no window, sitting in the middle of the building. Once the old furniture was out, the decaying walls had to be remade and the floor rebuilt and levelled, with all the pipework hidden below the floor and behind the wall for a clean, minimal finish.

The room was tanked, or fully waterproofed, with a sealant before the drainage went in, then Steve tiled the floor and walls: textured stone coloured floor tiles that grip well in a wetroom, large white wall tiles and a blue/grey mosaic surround, with a wide vertical mosaic strip behind the shower making a striking cross shape.

The basin is suspended from the wall, which keeps the room feeling spacious and airy.

Small family bathroomsComplete refits
  • White gloss tiles
  • Mirror mosaic border
  • Black slate floor

One family bathroom was fully tiled in white gloss with a mosaic border, a stone effect worktop and a heated towel rail. Steve used Grahams, and the customer was pleased to see their showroom before choosing.

Another full refit used mirror mosaic tiles for a high border on white gloss tiles laid brick style, with black slate floor tiles. The shower pipes were hidden in the wall, and to make the most of a compact room Steve fitted under sink cupboards and customised a slimline cupboard between the WC and wall that also hides the lower half of the soil stack. The worktop was cut to fit the corner, the windowsill tiled to match, and a tall towel heater fitted.

What customers say on Google

“We engaged Steve to upgrade our scruffy, cramped bathroom to a modern and more spacious feeling shower room. From the start, nothing was too much trouble, here are just a couple of examples: The tiles we chose were on special offer initially, but due to delays (we had other work going on) the offer finished and the new price was rather expensive, but Steve spoke with the retailer and secured us a very good price, to be held until we were ready. Also, due to the low ceiling in the bathroom we were keen to have the shower tray as low profile as possible, which we'd been advised by another company would still mean having a riser for the tray, but Steve didn't flinch and said he'd see what he could do... Well he did exactly what we'd hoped and we had room for a nice waterfall shower! We're very happy with our new shower room (pictures show it undecorated and no flooring). Steve was professional, diligent and punctual and we'd certainly recommend him. He's also a very nice chap!”

Julie Scott on Google

“Steve converted an old downstairs bathroom into a fully tiled wet room, with a new shower, toilet, washhand basin and radiator in spring 2021. He was most helpful with the design and in obtaining the required new bathroom fittings. He was flexible in his visits, working around our requirements when we had other work going on at the same time. He was always professional in his approach and the standard of workmanship was excellent. His price was also very reasonable and I would have no hesitation in recommending him. Get a large teapot though - he does like a "cuppa".”
